Consideration of Nominations for Life Membership and Obie Award.

Like membership and OB awards are very important to our club. They are important in enabling us to recognise outstanding contributions to our club. These nominations are not to be taken lightly and we must insure that only the highest deserving candidates are nominated. The Oie Award is the highest honour that can be bestowed upon a member of our club, as an indication of the Esteem held for “The Obie” only four recipients havre been granted it in the clubs history. If you do feel that, someone should be nominated for either life membership or the Obie award. Please forward your nominations to any member of the executive committee prior to 12th of October 2023. Please see below the criteria for life membership and OB award for consideration prior to your nomination on your nomination, please include the nominee and endorsement statement outlining all of the reasons why you feel that the nominee should be granted the award, include a seconder who is a member of our club or Management committee.


LIFE MEMBERSHIP

3B. (1). Nominations for Life Membership must be presented in writing, to the Secretary at least fourteen (14) days prior to the last Management Committee meeting before that years Presentation Night. A written resume of the member’s involvement in the club must be supplied. The nomination must be signed by the mover and seconder of the motion to award the Life Membership. The Executive Committee will review the nomination to ensure that it meets the criteria and then forward it to the final Management Committee meeting for endorsement. The awarding of Life Membership will require a secret ballot vote and be passed by a two thirds majority of those members present and entitled to vote.

(2.) The minimum criteria to receive Life Membership shall be

(a) a minimum of 10 years service to the club; and

(b) to be judged to have made a significant contribution to the club in that time


Kevin O’Brien Memorial Award – “Obie”

In recognition of continuous outstanding and dedicated service to Penshurst RSL Rugby League. Maximum of one (1) awarded per year and does not have to be awarded each year. Decided upon by the Awards Committee.


Club Foundation Members

1961 saw the foundation of the Penshurst RSL Junior Rugby league Club.

The Penshurst RSL Football Club foundation members were;

Kevin O’Brien, I. Green, Stan Root, K. Clarke and Rex Notley


The First Football Club Committee

1968 saw the formation of the first Club Committee.

Members of the first Committee were;

Stan Root, H. Bush, Leo Betts, R. Mills, Ray Lillas and Kevin O’Brien


Kevin 'Obie' O'Brien Award

The ‘Obie’ is awarded in recognition of continuous, outstanding and dedicated service to Penshurst RSL Junior Rugby League Club.

An ‘Obie’ is awarded to recognise service beyond a Life Membership.
